A Wyoming native, Pastor Schurman first began studying engineering at the University of Wyoming, but he discovered in himself a growing passion for theology. He attended Martin Luther College in 1999 and graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 2006. Pastor Schurman served in Burke, South Dakota for 8 years prior to returning to Wyoming in June 2014 after receiving a call from Lord of Lords.
Pastor Fred Schurman was born and raised in Rawlins, Wyoming. He graduated from Rawlins High School in May of 1993. He began studying electrical engineering at the University of Wyoming, then returned in January of 1997 to continue those studies.
It was during this time that he met his future wife Melissa, who was born and raised in Thermopolis, Wyoming. Pastor Schurman began to find that he was far more interested in theology than engineering, and in 1999 he attended Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota, to begin studies for the pastoral ministry.
He graduated from Martin Luther College in May of 2002, then attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin. Pastor and Melissa were married on New Year's Day 2003 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cheyenne, Wyoming. In 2004 Pastor Schurman was assigned his vicarage at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Roscommon, Michigan.
Pastor and Melissa's oldest son was born one month before they moved to begin his vicarage. He graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 2006 and was assigned to serve at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Burke, South Dakota. Their second son was born in Burke. The Schurman family resided in Burke until their move to serve at Lord of Lords Evangelical Lutheran Church in Casper, Wyoming.
Pastor Schurman worked in a machine shop and various garages while studying, and he still enjoys working with his hands. His hobbies include restoring and repairing things, especially broken toys, as well as hunting and fishing.
