This is the seventh sermon from the 2023 Lent series "Why Must the Servant of the LORD Suffer?" Pastor Schurman explains that Jesus died a painful death intended for criminals, suffering the punishment we deserve for our sins, so that we can have eternal life through faith in him.

Jesus explained that he would die on the cross and then rise again, but Peter did not understand and initially rejected what Jesus said. Jesus rebuked Peter and then told his followers to take up their crosses and follow him. That message applies to us today, but if, like Peter, we don't understand the crosses in our lives, we may reject them.
